My partner McKinley and I had the opportunity to go abroad to Belgium to live and work in the historic Casino Van Gompel. Rich with history, and originally an event space for a local glass company, ownership transferred from German outpost in World War II, to night club, to abandonment for 30 years. Our work to rehabilitate the space consisted of applying a lime and sand mixture to decrepit walls, and fabricating new stair balusters to meet code requirements. It is intended to serve as a community center and hotel once completed in the next two years.
